A Message from our Guidance Counselor
Welcome to the Socastee Elementary School Guidance webpage. As the school counselors at Socastee Elementary School, we will work with students in a variety of ways. We will provide individual counseling (short-term), conduct small groups for various issues and teach classroom guidance lessons on a variety of topics. We will also work with families during times of need to connect them with community resources.
Guidance SES
A Comprehensive School Counseling program is developmental and systematic in nature, sequential, clearly defined, and accountable. The program is proactive and preventive in focus. It assists students in acquiring and using life-long learning skills. More specifically, this school counseling program employs strategies to enhance academics, provide career awareness, develop employment readiness, encourage self-awareness, foster interpersonal communication skills, and impact life success skills for all students.
Today’s young people are living in an exciting time, with an increasingly diverse society, new technologies, and expanding opportunities. To help ensure that they are prepared to become the next generation of parents, workers, leaders, and citizens, every student needs support, guidance and opportunities. As we all know, the challenges children face, both personally and developmentally, impact their academic achievement.
Early identification and intervention of children's academic and personal/social needs is essential in removing barriers to learning and in promoting academic achievement. The knowledge, attitudes, and skills that students acquire in the areas of academic, career, and personal/social development during these years serve as the foundation for future success.
The American School Counselors Association has developed a national model which I intend to follow. There are three sections in the national model; Personal/Social Development, Educational Development, and Career Development. Welcome to SES!
